Der GAP katalysierte GTPase Mechanismus des Ras-Proteins in atomarer Auflösung. Mit einem neuen ultrasensitiven spektroskopischen Ansatz wurde die nur wenige Millisekunden lang besetzte Position des doppelt protonierten Phosphates (H2PO4- ) relativ zum GDP im Protein bestimmt. Das Protein kann nicht nur abschalten, sondern auch in den "an" Zustand zurück.
