Abb.-Legende: (A) Ein Netzwerk aus Keratinfilamenten durchzieht die gesamte Zelle eines Lebertumors (Zellkultur). (B-C) Keratin K77 ist typisch für die innere Zelllage des Schweißdrüsenganges (G), während die schweißbildenden Drüsen (D) dieses Keratin nicht bilden (C). Das Durchdringen des Ganges durch die Oberhaut zeigt (B). Das Vorkommen von Keratin K77 in den runden Tumorstrukturen identifiziert diese Geschwulst (Syringom) als einen vom Schweißdrüsengang ausgehenden Tumor (D). Die Keratine wurden mittels Keratin-Antikörper und eines rot-fluoreszierenden Farbstoffs (A; DNA im Zellkern ist blau-fluoreszierend gefärbt) bzw. mit einer chemischen Braunfärbung (B-D) sichtbar gemacht.
