Press invitation to IEEE CLOUDNET Conference: Data Cloud – From Computing to Networking

Sophie Kolb Campus Limpertsberg
Universität Luxemburg - Université du Luxembourg

The Interdisciplinary Centre für Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) of the University of Luxembourg is hosting the conference “IEEE CLOUDNET 2014”. From October 8th to 10th, the Centre thus brings Luxembourg into the international discussion of a topic that expert circles are starting to fully appreciate as a crucial issue of the future: the technical aspect of networking in the data cloud. Journalists are cordially invited to attend IEEE CLOUDNET 2014 on Thursday, October 8th, from 8.30 a.m. am at the Abbaye de Neumünster, Luxembourg. Your contacts are Dr. Dzmitry Kliazovich (CLOUDNET General Co-chair) and Prof. Pascal Bouvry (CLOUDNET General Co-chair), both University of Luxembourg.

Distributed data processing on servers located around the world has gained much importance in recent years: While the performance of stationary computers is limited, the so-called data cloud now holds almost unlimited computing and storage capacity, which we can use with great flexibility. “The requirements for computers, servers and data lines in the cloud are already well researched, and are being continually advanced,” says Prof. Pascal Bouvry: “So far, there has been little focus on making sure the hardware works together and exchanges data as securely, reliably and efficiently as possible. We are addressing this new, burning issue with the IEEE CLOUDNET: Sensitive data must be exchanged between the hardware components in the cloud in such a manner as to rule out errors and misuse with great certainty. The design of secure, reliable and trustworthy processes presents an extremely high innovative potential.”

Today, global computing platforms relying on strong “High Performance Computing” facilities and using fast interconnects as well as very large cloud-based data centers are hosting zetabytes of data (1021 bytes). “They promise exciting new breakthrough in computational sciences,” stresses Prof. Dr. Franck Leprévost, Vice President for Organisation and International Affairs of the University of Luxembourg: “The University of Luxembourg builds up high expertise in this field. With this our aim is to support systems biomedicine as well as information security and material science."

But cloud networking is not only of great interest to ICT researchers – it is also a hot topic for economists. But before economic innovation can be achieved, however, researchers must first gather to share their research approaches and their results so far. “IEEE CLOUDNET offers the perfect conditions for this,” says Marc Schiltz, General Director of the Fonds National de la Recherche (FNR) and sponsor of the conference: “SnT has managed to attract the pioneers of cloud networking to Luxembourg for the conference. We expect to see inspiring ideas for ICT research here.”

    Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
    Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

    Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

    Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

    Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
