In times of globalised economy and increasing interdisciplinarity of research activities, international networking has become a major issue for everybody working on the forefront of science and toward the commercialisation of innovative products.
The Saar-Lor-Lux region has an enormous potential to become one of Europe's hot spots in the area of new materials and life science. Here - with Luxembourg, Metz, Nancy and Saarbrücken - we find an unusually high concentration of excellent universities and institutes active in the respective fields. About 500 companies in the Grande Region are active in the materials sector, and another 100 companies are working in the biomedical field. It is the objective of this meeting to generate a regional network in nanotechnology, new materials and coatings. It is supposed to act as an amplifier for the individual efforts of the regional materials community and to transform our region into a European model for successful cooperation in the area of new technologies.
The forum aims at establishing contacts and at initiating joint projects. It is also meant to be the kick-off meeting for a series of events to be held on a biannual basis. The location of future forums will rotate between Luxembourg, Metz, Nancy and Saarbrücken. Future meetings should have a main technical focus defined by the local organisers.
