EUPRIO Annual Conference 2005 Krems

The concept of integrated communication has been a source of fascination for both theoreticians and practical communicators over the past 20 years. We would like to approach the theme "Integrated Communication - Fact or Fiction?" from different angles in Krems in 2005, combining theoretical perspectives with aspects of reliable practical relevance.

The concept of integrated communication has been a source of fascination for both theoreticians and practical communicators over the past 20 years. There are a number of arguments in favour of integrating various communication activities: the strong growth of media and growing competition in nearly all markets, also in the European and global education market, are only two reasons that call for enhanced efficiency and effectiveness through integrated communication. More important still, however, is to ensure that recipients no longer differentiate between various communication activities, but identifies only one company, one organisation with the ongoing advertising, PR measures, business reports or events.
This not only applies to business enterprises, but also to state and private general universities and universities of applied sciences, which, in the 21st century, no longer move in a protected environment, but have become players in a dynamic European education market.

Given the above, we would like to approach the theme "Integrated Communication - Fact or Fiction?" from different angles in Krems in 2005, combining theoretical perspectives with aspects of reliable practical relevance. In the context of communication work at university level, we will also face up to the problematic of competition between marketing and PR - an issue that is no longer new, yet highly current - as well as the resistance exhibited by institutes of higher education in view of integrated communication.

Whether integrated communication is feasible at universities or whether it will simply continue to be mere theory, as often is the case in economic enterprises - this is what we would like to discuss with you in several workshops, learning from scientist and each other, gaining insights and offering practicable results.
