The aim of the workshop is to create a negotiation platform for notions and research intentions of three different groups analyzing networks and innovation networks in particular. The first group is dealing with the phenomenon from an empirically side having a good idea about the historical record of network evolution in different fields. The second group is involved in the modeling of the evolution of innovation networks by drawing on evolutionary economics as well as modern innovation research. The third group comes from various strands of complexity science (complex networks theory).
The aim of the proposed workshop is to create a space in which the different notions about structure and dynamics of networks can be mapped to each other. Additionally, the workshop will deal with different expectations of the disciplines involved. By merging different competences in the workshop we would like to achieve a new class of models within social sciences, on the one hand allowing to draw on the insights of modern network theories, and on the other hand, showing a strong empirical and applied orientation.
The workshop is supposed to last five days. The participants will distribute "core" papers in advance, which are presented and discussed the first two days. The remaining three days are dedicated to smaller discussion groups where specific topics will be discussed. The workshop will contribute to agenda setting in the area of connecting network modeling and network analysis.
