Complex structures, may they be product architectures, process networks, organizational structures or markets, always are present when developing innovative products. Being able to deal with them therefore is of high significance for a company's success. In fact, the handling of complex systems during the process of product development can generate a unique selling point position for a company.
The Design Structure Matrix (DSM) has become a well accepted means of making complex networks accessible. It has, over the years, led to the establishment of the DSM workshops and conferences that took place e.g. in Boston, Cambridge and Seattle. In the succession of these events, the 9th International DSM Conference is taking place in Munich from 16 till 18 October 2007, being organized by the Institute for Product Development of the Technische Universität München in cooperation with the BMW Group.
The conference broaches today's needs in making complex systems accessible. It addresses researchers, industrial managers and practitioners as well as tool developers. Topics of the conference concern new scientific methods and applications of handling complex architectures. Miscellaneous engineering areas like automotive engineering, aerospace, and plant engineering will be discussed. In addition, the congress gives an overview over various methodologies and their use for dealing with complex systems.

The conference will be based on high quality contributions from leading industry participants, tool developers, and researchers. Different sessions will be offered in alternating order to achieve a diversified exchange of ideas that cover diverse needs in the understanding of complexity management. For persons new to the DSM community, especially industrial practitioners, a number of tutorials will be offered on the first day (included in conference fee).
As a social program, an informal get-together is planned for those arriving early. On the first evening of the conference, ideas can be exchanged over a cocktail and snack event, while the second evening will end with a magnificent dinner at the rotating restaurant at the top of the Munich television tower - 182m above the Olympic Park.

To submit an abstract, please follow the instructions provided in the author's kit. It is available on the conference website under "contributions". The conference website also provides downloads of the necessary registration and hotel reservation forms. Payment is only possible by credit card (Mastercard, VISA, AMEX).

All managers, engineers, and researchers interested in complexity management are cordially invited to participate in the DSM Conference 2007. Also, experts are welcome to offer presentations. All contributions will be published in the conference's proceedings which will be available to all participants. An early registration discount is available until three months prior to the event.
