With the Equitable Global Health Symposium the Global Young Faculty intend to bring together representatives from non-governmental
organizations and the pharmaceutical industry, politicians, scientists, healthcare professionals, ethicists, and concerned citizens to raise awareness of social inequalities in health that exist in different forms not only in a global but also in a local context. Further to explore how current health systems can be improved given the resource constraints in different parts of the world. To discuss cancer as one of the health challenges of increasing relevance in an aging population and to engage in a discussion on how to effectively fight pandemic infectious diseases.

The Global Young Faculty is an initiative of Stiftung Mercator, coordinated by the Institute for Advanced Study in the
Humanities (KWI) in Essen. It is a contribution of these two institutions, the University Alliance Metropolis Ruhr and the extrauniversity
research institutes to the European Capital of Culture RUHR.2010. The Global Young Faculty is additionally supported by the Ministry of Innovation, Science, Research and Technology of North Rhine-Westphalia. The Faculty approaches urgent global challenges of our time and focuses particularly on universal topics such as Climate Change, Technological Progress, Economic Development, Culture and Society as well as Equitable Global Health.
