Applications running on a wide range of devices and platforms are increasingly common. The technologies behind that range from implementing separate versions of the application for different platforms to the use of common middleware.
But applications already move beyond running single application instances on different devices. Some applications run on one device and are controlled on another. The most common example of this are currently TV sets that are controlled via remote control applications on smartphones. But other applications that make use of features of multiple devices are forthcoming, using the TV for elements that benefit from high resolution, tablets for ease of data entry and phones for payment and identification.
This situation provides challenges that go beyond the facilities of middleware conceived for applications running on individual devices. How do the individual elements that comprise a multi-device applications discover each other? How do they keep the communication secure? How can they protect against being tricked into communicating with malware? How can application elements and functionality moved from one device to another with the least amount of programming and user effort? Which part of the application maintains status information? What happens when one of the devices involved in a multi-device application fails?

Submission Format and Review Process:

Papers should be no longer than 6 pages in the standard ACM format and must be submitted through EasyChair in PDF, Word or TeX format

All papers will be peer-reviewed by at least two reviewers with expertise in the area. As in previous years, the Middleware conference organizers will provide companion proceedings including all workshop papers, which will be available in the ACM Digital Library.
