Lightsymposium Wismar 2012 - Future of Light and Lighting in Architecture

This forum is for all those who see the future of light and lighting in buildings as creating sustainable designs to meet the need of the humans
The 3rd Symposium reflects the latest research results and findings on light in general and on the future of architectural lighting in particular!
The Symposium is an independent forum for all those concerned with the wisdom and experience gained from using light and colour in architecture as a means of supporting health or wellness strategies.

Facts
The use of daylight in and around buildings is primarily necessary to maintain and support the health and well-being of the users. Electric lighting should be designed to support the aforementioned health aspects and be relevant to the spatial and aesthetic qualities of the architecture. The overall design must be holistically energy-efficient and sustainable, and be accepted by the users of the spaces.

Perspectives
An energy-efficient and sustainable scheme is enabled by optimizing the daylight design and supplementing it by means of additive, adjustable and flexible electric lighting concepts. In the interest of the human-oriented and sustainable design of light and lighting, daylight systems and electric lighting schemes need to be seen as complementing one another rather than as competitors. Immediate exterior spaces must be included in the design.

Points for discussion
Shaping the future of light and lighting, and thus also being directly involved in the architectural design process, involves addressing a wide range of issues. It means raising questions as to energy efficiency, providing counter solutions, being aware of health benefits and hazards, working in an ethical manner, and systematically reviewing cost-efficiency and sustainability issues. This is all the more important today, since we are already faced with using new technologies for generating and applying light.
