For centuries, Europe led the world in many fields of human endeavor. Emerging from the devastation of the Second World War, Europe forged a model of collaboration and partnership which ushered in 60 years of peace and rising prosperity. Now we stand at a crossroads! The European model was severely tested by the crisis of 2008-09 and its aftermath. As Europe seeks to define the path back to prosperity and growth, fresh challenges emerge in a competitive world: the powerful momentum of Asian nations, and the resilience of a US economy approaching energy independence. If Europe recognizes and unites around its strengths, then its potential is considerable. Unlocking that potential is now the highest priority for Europe’s leaders. For the people of Europe – in particular, for the younger generation – the stakes could not be higher. Anshu Jain, Co-Chief Executive Officer of Deutsche Bank AG, will discuss the challenges facing Europe and explore potential solutions to these challenges.
