The European Central Bank (ECB) has a well-defined mandate: to maintain price stability within the Eurozone. However, the limitations of ECB policies have been at the core of a debate over the viability of the Eurozone, which has only intensified during the area's current economic crisis. Thus, this conference will carefully asses the monetary policy in the Eurozone.
The Director of the Max Planck Institute for Tax Law and Public Finance, Kai A. Konrad, and ESMT Berlin President Jörg Rocholl have asked established experts to address questions such as whether monetary policy can be separated from fiscal policy. The conference will also examine issues around the foundations of the goal of price stability. Speakers include Dieter Wemmer, Chief Financial Officer of Allianz SE; Former Chief Economist of the European Central Bank Otmar Issing; and Felix Hufeld, President, Federal Financial Supervisory Authority.
