Studying European-style with 4EU+: New Joint Master’s Program
Students from all 4EU+ member universities can gain cross-border qualifications in the field of environmental economics and policy

The opportunity to study across national borders is featured in the new Master’s program “European Environmental Economics and Policy” – offered jointly by the universities of Copenhagen, Heidelberg, Milan, Prague and Warsaw in the context of the 4EU+ European University Alliance. The interdisciplinary degree course funded within the Erasmus Mundus initiative of the European Union addresses graduates wishing to deepen their knowledge in the fields of environmental economics and policy, with a special focus on European climate policy. For international students, applications for a place on the two-year Master’s program open on 15 November 2024, and for citizens of the EU, European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland on 16 January 2025.

Based on the latest scientific findings, the joint Master’s course is designed to provide key skills in the fields of environmental economics and policy. It aims to equip future graduates to work on innovative solutions in European environmental policy. Successful applicants will spend the first year of the program at the University of Copenhagen concentrating on Environmental Economics and Policy in Europe. In the second year, the course will continue either at Heidelberg University (with the optional specializations Advanced Environmental Economics or Comparative Environmental Policy), the University of Milan (Climate Change and Energy Economics), Charles University in Prague (Policies and Politics of Green Transition) or the University of Warsaw (Economics of Green and Just Transition). Applicants fulfilling the prerequisites can apply for an Erasmus Mundus scholarship amounting to 1,400 euros a month, which will be available for up to 24 months.

Applying for a place on the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Program “European Environmental Economics and Policy” happens through a central online portal at the University of Copenhagen, which is coordinating the course. The closing date for applicants from the EU, EEA or Switzerland is 1 March 2025; the deadline for applicants from all other countries is 15 January 2025.

The 4EU+ European University Alliance brings together the eight universities of Prague, Heidelberg, Paris-Panthéon-Assas, Sorbonne/Paris, Copenhagen, Geneva, Milan and Warsaw. The group of partner universities is one of the university alliances funded in the context of the Erasmus+ European Universities call. By supporting strategic higher education partnerships and building up an integrated university system, the European Commission pursues the goal of clustering research, teaching and innovation in Europe in new structures, and thereby modernizing and strengthening the European Education Area.
