Annual e:Med Meeting marks a decade of pioneering systems medicine research in Germany

Dr. Asli Kayserili Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit
e:Med Systems Medicine

e:Med Meeting 2024 on Systems Medicine hosts systems medicine researchers from all over Germany in the vibrant city of Hamburg to discuss the future of fields systems medicine and personalized medicine. Date: November 21-23, 2024 Location: Bucerius Law School, Helmut Schmitt Auditorium. more information at https://www.sys-med.de/de/meeting/emed-2024

Why does an illness progress so differently in different people? Why does a drug work optimally in one person, but has no effect in others? The answer to these questions lies in the complex individuality of each person – and requires a medicine that does justice to this and is precisely tailored to the person, personalized medicine.

This is precisely what the BMBF-funded e:Med Systems Medicine program adresses. For ten years, hundreds of researchers have been adding to our knowledge of the complex relationships within human body. Patient data from various biological levels, such as molecular, cellular, genetic and clinical; from the individual cell to the organism, are considered together to gain a holistic insight.
In this context, scientists make use of powerful computers, to determine complex dynamic between different factors. They put the data from sensitive measurements into biological models to understand disease mechanisms . These models are then used by scientists and physicians to, for example, predict disease course or treatment response.

At this conference, the scientists report on their latest findings. Detailed investigations can show that a drug can help patients in a new context and thus, disease progression can be hindered. New biomarkers for more precise treatment are found. Individual cells are examined with the most modern equipment. Multiple samples in parallel and live over a longer period of time are investigated. New computer languages describe molecular relationships. AI models and applications make complex decisions to support patients and medical staff.

This year’s e:Med Meeting on Systems Medicine will be where scientists will reveal key findings of the program while discussing the future of personalized medicine.

Event: e:Med Meeting 2024 on Systems Medicine, Hamburg
    Date: November 21-23, 2024
    Location: Bucerius Law School, Helmut-Schmidt-Auditorium

Journalists are welcome! We are happy to arrange interviews for you. Please reach us at
info@sys-med.de. Our conference requires registration but is free to attend. Registration at the venue is possible.
The conference brings together the systems medicine community in Germany and international experts to discuss the latest research, share insights, and network at special events.

The program features keynote talks, oral and poster presentations, industry exhibitions, and flash talks. The major topics are:

    • Technologies & Bioinformatic Approaches in Systems Medicine
    • Modelling in Systems Medicine
    • Systems Medicine of Diseases
    • Translational Approaches in Systems Medicine

A Multidisciplinary Board on Stage, demonstrating molecular decision-making in inflammation
Moreover, we are delighted that MinDirig’in Katharina Peter, Technologies in Life Sciences, BMBF, will be opening the conference.

More information on the e:Med research program:
e:Med has the objective of establishing systems medicine in Germany. e:Med promotes system-oriented research into diseases in order to facilitate improved prevention, more comprehensive diagnostics and individually adjusted therapy schemes in individualized medicine. The program brings together scientists with molecular-genetic, clinical, mathematical and information technology expertise, with the objective of ensuring that research results quickly benefit patients.
Electronic processing (e:Med) plays a particularly important role for unravelling scientific questions in iterative cycles of experimental studies and computer modelling approaches. The nationwide research and funding concept has been funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) since 2013.

    Hilfe
