Candidates interested in taking the GMAT exam - the international test that applicants to many top ranked graduate programmes in business and economics around the world must take - can now do so in Gothenburg. The School of Business, Economics and Law at the University of Gothenburg now meets the rigorous standards that are required in order to earn the right to conduct the exam. This is nowone of only a few places in northern Europe where the exam is offered.
GMAT, or the Graduate Management Admission Test, is a standardised, computer-based test that assesses mathematical thinking and English reading comprehension. There are three parts of the test: an analytical part consisting of two essay tasks, a quantitative multiple-choice part that assesses for example problem-solving ability and an oral part that assesses English reading comprehension.
'Many believe that the GMAT is similar to the Swedish Scholastic Aptitude Test, Högskoleprovet, in terms of design and difficulty, but I feel that the GMAT is more difficult, especially since it demands a high level of reading comprehension in English and assesses how well you would do in a graduate programme. It is quite simply an assessement of the skills and aptitude you have acquired during your bachelor studies' says Ann McKinnon, International Coordinator at the School of Business, Economics and Law and Manager of the GMAT centre.
Starting with the 2010 admissions, all two-year Masters programmes at the Graduate School, School of Business, Economics and Law, that are only taught in English,, will require the GMAT.'We see the test centre as a service to our students, who are showing more and more interest in international graduate programmes, both domestic and international. The reason we require the GMAT is quality assurance and adaption to the international standards.'

There will be two tests per week, each with a capacity of four candidates. The test takes four hours to finish. The centre is designed, physically and technically, according to the very strict security standards prescribed by GMAC, the Graduate Management Admission Council, who administers the GMAT. It costs 250 USD plus VAT to take the test, and this fee is the same all around the world. A person can register for the test online at http://www.mba.com. . The Gothenburg centre is located in the facilities of the School of Business, Economics and Law at Viktoriagatan in Gothenburg.
