In diesem Zusammenhang widmet sich das Symposium nicht nur grundlegenden Fragen etwa nach der Bedeutung des Vorsorgeprinzips für behördliches Handeln, sondern fokussiert auch praktische Herausforderungen und neue Regulierungsvorhaben wie etwa die bevorstehende unionale Deregulierung genomeditierter Pflanzen. Darüber hinaus werden u.a. kinderbezogene Werbeverbote als wirksamer Beitrag zum Jugend- und Gesundheitsschutz diskutiert.

Die Tagung möchte daher in sozial-, kultur- und medienhistorischer Perspektive dem Wandel des Phänomens, seiner schillernden Semantik und seiner vielgestaltigen Erscheinungen und Wirkungen im Zuge des 20. Jahrhunderts nachgehen.
