Euroscience Open Forum, 2004 (ESOF2004) is the first pan-European scientific meeting ever providing an interdisciplinary forum for open dialogue, debate and discussion on science and technology in society.
ESOF2004 will be held at Stockholm City Conference Centre in Stockholm, Sweden, 25-28 August 2004.
The forum highlights Europe's position, alongside the United States, as the world's pre-eminent region for scientific research. The eighteen topics presented at the forum include science policy issues, humanity and space, the human brain, communication science, science and ethics and more.
The programme will host approximately 300 scientific speakers from all over the world and the topics will range from discussions on the demographic problems of Europe to new discoveries in brain research and odontology.
The speakers are international leaders in their fields, and include Professor André Berger, of the Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics at the Catholic University of Louvain, Catherine Bréchignac, Research Director at CNRS and President of the Institut d'Optique, André Sapir, advisor to the European Commission and author of "An Agenda for Growing Europe" and Dr Tim Hunt, Principal Scientist at Cancer Research UK and Nobel laureate. They are joined by government ministers from around the world, representatives of international organizations, leading journalists and other major opinion formers.
In addition to the Scientific Programme a large number of events, targeted to the public at large will be presented; "Science in the City", containing various examples on outreach activities, like the "amazing Profmobile" from Bremen.
ESOF2004 is initiated by EuroScience, and the event is supported by several organisations, research councils and companies all over Europe, for example the European Commission, DFG Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft, Robert Bosch Stiftung and Nature.

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
