Evaluation and Text Types

The Department of (English) Linguistics at Augsburg University (Wolfram Bublitz, Monika Bednarek) will host a 2-day conference on evaluation and text types, to be held from the 22nd to the 23rd of July 2005.

For the purposes of this conference evaluation is defined as the broad cover term for the expression of the speaker's or writer's attitude or stance towards, viewpoint on, or feelings about the entities or propositions that he or she is talking about. That attitude may relate to certainty or obligation or desirability or any of a number of other sets of values. (Thompson & Hunston 2000: 5) and overlaps with competing notions such as stance and appraisal.

Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
