Während der Tagung verleiht die Deutsche Physikalische Gesellschaft ihre beiden wichtigsten Auszeichnungen - sie gehen an Forscher der TU München: die "Max-Planck-Medaille für Theoretische Physik" erhält Wolfgang Götze, Festkörperforscher und Experte für glasartige Materialien. Der Biophysiker Erich Sackmann wird für seine Arbeiten über Zellmembranen und Biopolymere mit der "Stern-Gerlach-Medaille für Experimentelle Physik" geehrt.
