Zunächst 7 Nachwuchsforscher aus allen Fachgebieten des HPI widmen sich bereits seit dem 1. Oktober 2005 in der "HPI Research School" interdisziplinär dem gemeinsamen Thema Service-Oriented Systems Engineering, einem neuen Paradigma für Architektur, Entwurf und Entwicklung komplexer IT-Systeme. Weitere 10 Stipendien für die "HPI Research School" sind ausgeschrieben. Finanziert wird das Doktorandenkolleg durch den Stifter und Mitbegründer von SAP, Hasso Plattner.
