Einführung und Moderation: Prof. Alexander Bradshaw, Mitglied der Berlin-Brandenburgischen Akademie der Wissenschaften

A Fifth generation Israeli born scientist presents a very personal view of current events in the Middle East and of global terrorism, concentrating on issues of the greater Middle East rather than on the Israeli-Arab conflict. The roles of technology, education, finance, international law and the media are discussed. Some of the main points: The Israeli-Arab conflict is not at all at the center of the drama; International Law must be rewritten to adapt to the age of State sponsored terrorism; Words are a weapon of mass destruction; Communities which produce large numbers of suicide murderers are committing their own suicide. The talk is based on a book of the same title, by the speaker.

Prof. Haim Harari served as President of the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel from 1988 to 2001. He holds several honours and memberships. He is member of the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities and currently holds the chair at the Davidson Institute of Science Education. His book "A View from the Eye of the Storm - Terror and Reason in the Middle East" has been published in New York in 2005.
