Die Europäische Kommission hat der Sicherheitsforschung im neuen 7. Forschungsrahmenprogramm thematische Priorität eingeräumt. Europäische Forschungsvorhaben im Bereich der zivilen Sicherheit werden bis 2013 mit 1,4 Mrd. EUR gefördert. Am 3. August 2007 wurde nun der erste "Joint Call ICT & Security" von der EU-Kommission veröffentlicht: Gefördert werden Projekte zum Thema "Schutz kritischer Infrastrukturen".
Das 2. Europäische Forum "Safety and Security in Europe", organisiert vom Innovation Relay Centre Norddeutschland (vertreten durch die VDI/VDE-IT), richtet sich aus diesem Anlass an technologieorientierte Unternehmen und Forschungseinrichtungen in ganz Europa. Fachforen informieren über neueste Forschungen im Bereich sicherheitsrelevanter Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien. Ein weiterer Schwerpunkt der 2-tägigen Veranstaltung ist eine spezielle Kooperationsplattform zur Initiierung europäischer Forschungs- oder Technologietransferprojekte für die Teilnehmer - auch im Hinblick auf den Joint Call, dessen Einreichungsfrist am 29. November 2007 endet.
