Better plants for better life
In future, improvements of crop productivity and quality will be related to a substantial development in plant biotechnology research and development. Plant biotechnology aims at contributing to sustainable agricultural production which addresses aspects of food security and food safety, and which is environmentally sound in such way that natural resources are preserved and contributions to climate change kept at minimum. Research into food safety and carry-over of organic and inorganic xenobiotics, food composition and diet related diseases, phytopharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals is essential for instance to combat malnutrition and food-related disorders.
Present applications of biotechnology in agriculture include conventional agronomic research (breeding, plant nutrition, plant protection), tissue culture and micro-propagation, molecular breeding, genetic engineering and the production of GM crops, and the "omics" sciences (e.g., genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, etc.). Particularly transgenic plants promise options to increase crop yield, to produce high-value primary (e.g. methionine) and secondary (e.g. glutathione) compounds in plants and to design plants with adaptive capacities to optimize growth under adverse conditions (e.g. salinity).
It is the scope of the 2nd Workshop on Better Plants for Better Life to highlight advances in research of different disciplines that contribute to achieve the objective of this general theme.

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
