Die gegenwärtige Konjunktur der Neurowissenschaften ist ohne die neuen Visualisierungsmethoden (Neuroimaging) nur schwer vorstellbar: Dadurch wird die Hoffnung genährt, den Geist bei der Arbeit beobachten zu können. Unter Rückgriff auf die Geschichte der Hirnforschung werden in diesem Vortrag die Hirnbilder als kulturelle Erzeugnisse analysiert.
Michael Hagner ist seit 2003 Professor für Wissenschaftsforschung an der Eidgenössischen Technischen Hochschule (ETH) Zürich und Autor einer Reihe historischer Untersuchungen zur Hirnforschung.
