Evaluation beschreibt, analysiert und bewertet Projekte, Prozesse und Organisationseinheiten im Bildungsbereich, in den Bereichen Gesundheitsförderung und Entwicklungshilfe, in der Verwaltung, der Marktforschung und der Wirtschaft. Evaluation hat beispielsweise im Qualitätsmanagement einen festen Platz, so wird in Betrieben die Ergebnisse der geleisteten Arbeit erfasst.
Im Rahmen des Aufbaustudiengangs "Master of Evaluation" (ein Kooperationsstudiengang der Universität des Saarlandes und der Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Saarbrücken) findet auch im aktuellen Wintersemester das Kolloquium "Fokus Evaluation" statt, in dem verschiedene Experten und Expertinnen aus der Evaluationspraxis Gastvorträge zum Thema "Evaluation" halten.
Am Freitag, dem 23. Januar wird Dr. Richard Tobin, der Leiter der World Bank Institute Evaluation Group in Washington einen Vortrag zum Thema Wirkungsevaluation in englischer Sprache halten. Der Titel der Veranstaltung lautet "Some Cautionary Thoughts about Impact Evaluation".
