Über 120 Teilnehmer aus dem europäischen Ausland sowie den USA, Kanada, Israel und aus der Türkei haben sich angemeldet, um über neueste Entwicklungen bei Biomaterialien und über Wechselwirkungen mit Zellen und Gewebe zu diskutieren. Außerdem geht es um Simulationsmethoden für die voroperative Planung, um den Werkstoff Keramik in orthopädischen Anwendungen, um Implantate für die Unfallchirurgie und der Orthopädie sowie um die Gefahr, dass bei Metall-Metall-Gelenken sich Partikel abreiben und im Körper ablagern können. Ein anderes Thema sind spezielle Materialbeschichtungen etwa mit dem Biomolekül BMP-2 , um den Knochenaufbau und damit auch das Anwachsen des Implantats anzuregen.
