"Frieden ist nicht alles, aber ohne Frieden ist alles nichts!" Willy Brandts viel zitierte Worte verpflichten bis heute. Wird die deutsche Außenpolitik den gewachsenen Aufgaben und Herausforderungen gerecht? Gernot Erler, seit 2005 Staatsminister im Auswärtigen Amt, hat seine langjährigen Erfahrungen in sein neuestes Buch: "Mission Weltfrieden - Deutschlands neue Rolle in der Weltpolitik" einfließen lassen. Er stellt die These auf, dass in Deutschland zwischen 1998 und 2005 ein neues Politikmodell der Kultur des Friedens entstanden ist und fragt: Mit welchen Partnern kann Deutschland eine solche Politik umsetzen? Das untersucht er an den Beispielen USA, Russland und China und unterzieht das deutsche Politikmodell dem kritischen Praxistest - bei den Bewährungsproben in Afghanistan, in Iran und Nahost sowie in Zentralasien.
Zu der Podiumsdiskussion laden das IFSH und der Bundestagsabgeordnete Niels Annen in Kooperation mit dem GIGA ein.
