Im Mittelpunkt des Kongresses unter dem Motto "Energietechnik - Schlüsseltechnologie aus Europa" stehen die vier Fachtagungen "Diagnostik elektrischer Betriebsmittel", "Direktantriebe - Generatoren", "Leistungselektronik in Netzen" sowie "Intelligente Netze". Schwerpunkte sind unter anderem die Themen "Smart Metering" und aktive Verteilungsnetze.
Für Studierende und Young Professionals im VDE findet am 26. Oktober das Junge Forum zum ETG-Kongress statt mit Vorträgen und einer Podiumsdiskussion zur Liberalisierung des Strommarktes. Ein Höhepunkt ist die Verleihung des SAG-Awards des VDE und der SAG-GmbH an die drei besten Abschlussarbeiten im Bereich Energietechnik.
