Ames gibt einen Einblick in die taoistische Bildung, die auf einer Jahrhunderte alten Chinesischen Philosophie beruht. Sie stellt den gesamten Menschen und seine Entwicklung in den Mittelpunkt. Dem stellt Ames eine kritische Analyse des zeitgenössischen Bildungsverständnisses gegenüber, das Lehre und Wissen oft einseitig aus einer ökonomischen Perspektive betrachtet. Anschließend geht er der Frage nach: Wie können die Ideen des Taoismus zu einem Wandel in unserem modernen Bildungswesen beitragen?
