Die Anfänge der europäischen Kultur liegen im antiken Griechenland. Dort sind im 5. Jahrhundert vor Christus die grundlegenden politischen Ideen der Freiheit und der Demokratie entwickelt worden. Wie kam es dazu? Diese zentrale Frage der europäischen Geschichte wird von Christian Meier im Europavortrag an der Saar-Uni behandelt. Professor Meier gilt als bester Kenner des klassischen Griechenlands. Einem breiteren Publikum ist er mit seinen erfolgreichen Büchern über Cäsar oder das klassische Athen bekannt geworden.
