ELDIA - European Language Diversity for All - is an interdisciplinary research project for reconceptualizing, promoting and re-evaluating individual and societal multilingualism. It is funded by the European Union with 2.67 million Euros. Experts on applied linguistics and sociolinguistics, law, social studies and statistics, drawn from eight universities in six European countries, work together to contribute to a better understanding of how local, "national" and "international" (vehicular) languages interact in contemporary Europe. The results of the research project, will be generalizable: they will contribute to the study of multilingualism and the development of language policies in other multilingual contexts as well, in and outside Europe. The project will develop a systematic and generalizable way of describing, measuring and evaluating the effects of the changing balances between European languages by creating a commensurable and easily applicable instrument, the European Language Vitality Barometer (EuLaViBar). Furthermore, we will develop a general and testable model of the European practices of using vehicular languages in international, intra-national and regional settings.
We cordially invite you to the formal launch of the EU-project ELDIA on Monday, March 8th, 2010, 2:00 p.m., Hermann Staudinger lecture hall, Max Planck-Institute for Polymer Research, Ackermannweg 10, University Mainz campus.
After the opening speech by the project coordinator, Prof. Anneli Sarhimaa, presentations by Prof. Laakso (Vienna), Prof. Lainio (Mälardalens högskola) and Prof. Spiliopoulou-Åkermark (Aland Islands Peace Institute) will follow. You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.
You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).
Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.
You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).
If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
