Ihre Musik ist unvergänglich, aber sie selbst waren es nicht - ganz im Gegenteil. Bis vor etwa fünfzig Jahren waren bakterielle Infektionen eine Haupttodesursache - auch bei zahlreichen Komponisten, die oft in jungen Jahren verstarben. Der Vortrag ist ein musikalisch untermalter Streifzug durch dramatisch-tödlich verlaufende Infektionskrankheiten bedeutender Musiker der vergangenen Jahrhunderte.
Prof. Dr. Dr. h. c. Ernst Th. Rietschel war bis 2005 Professor für Immunchemie und Biochemische Mikrobiologie an der Universität zu Lübeck und Direktor am Forschungszentrum Borstel. Er ist Präsident der Leibniz-Gemeinschaft.
