Die Blaue Blume ist seit Novalis Romanfragment „Heinrich von Ofterdingen“ ein zentrales Symbol der Romantik. Sie steht für Sehnsucht, unerreichbare Liebe und das metaphysische Streben nach dem Unendlichen. Die Farbe Blau steht für die Sehnsucht, sie ist wie die Treue mit der Ferne verwandt.
Die Werke von Novalis (1772-1801), dem bedeutendsten deutschsprachigen Dichter der Romantik, sind heute wenig bekannt.
Die Schauspielerin Michaela Auinger sucht die Blaue Blume in Novalis facettenreichen Texten. Sie liest Ausgewähltes aus der Prosadichtung „Heinrich von Ofterdingen“, „Hymnen an die Nacht“, „Blütenstaub“ und den Gedichten.
