Mit dem Schwerpunktthema ‚Deutsche Sprache und Literatur im europäischen Kontext’ greift der diesjährige Deutsche Germanistentag ein in vielerlei Hinsicht aktuelles Thema auf. In sieben Fachsektionen und einem politisch-kulturell ausgerichteten Rahmenprogramm (DAAD-Podium ‚Deutsch in Europa’, Autorenlesungen) will die Tagung eine selbstbewusste Standortbestimmung vornehmen. Im Mittelpunkt stehen dabei die Rolle der Germanistik im Ausland, die Rolle der deutschen Sprache in Wissenschaft, Kultur und Politik in Europa, sowie die Rolle der Germanistik in der binnendeutschen Bildungs- und Identitätsdebatte.
