Islamic Finance bedeutet, dass alle Finanzdienstleistungen mit den Grundsätzen des islamischen Rechts in Einklang stehen müssen. Dies betrifft insbesondere das Zins- und Spekulationsverbot sowie das Verbot von Geschäften, die in Verbindung mit Alkohol, Schweinefleisch, Waffen, Tabak, Prostitution, Pornographie und Glücksspiel stehen. Inzwischen erlangt Islamic Finance immer mehr Bedeutung auch bei westlichen Investoren, Finanzierern und Rechtsexperten aller Fachrichtungen.
Der Vortrag wird eine Einführung in die Grundlagen des Islamic Finance geben und die Anwendbarkeit auf die globale Schifffahrtsindustrie untersuchen, wobei die aktuellen Heraus-forderungen der Finanz- und Wirtschaftskrise berücksichtigt werden.
Nijoe M. Joseph ist Senior Associate bei Holland & Knight LLP in Abu Dhabi, VAE. Seine Fachgebiete sind insbesondere das internationale und arabische Recht der Maritimen Wirtschaft sowie Handels- und Gesellschaftsrecht. Vor seiner Tätigkeit bei Holland & Knight war er rechtlicher Berater und Experte des Department of Transport in Abu Dhabi, VAE.
