Children's Tumor Foundation Conference 2012

The NF Conference is the premier annual event in the neurofibromatosis research and clinical calendar. Now ongoing for over twenty years, in 2011 over 300 clinicians and researchers from around the world convened to present the latest developments in NF research and clinical care. The Conference includes high-profile keynote speakers from related disciplines such as cancer and neuroscience, serving to stimulate thought and build connections between NF and other disorders.

The Children's Tumor Foundation will host the world's largest conference on neurofibromatosis (NF) June 9-12 in New Orleans, LA. The Children's Tumor Foundation's annual NF Conference is the premier event in the neurofibromatosis research and clinical calendar. Founded over twenty years ago, the NF Conference draws clinicians and researchers from around the world to present the latest developments in NF research and clinical care. The Conference includes high-profile keynote speakers from related disciplines, such as cancer and neuroscience, serving to stimulate thought and build connections between NF and other disorders.

The co-chairs for the 2012 NF Conference are Helen Morrison, Ph.D. of the Leibniz Institute for Age Research in Germany and Brigitte Widemann, MD of the National Cancer Institute.

Other notable presenters include Luis Parada, Ph.D. of the University of Texas Southwestern, Rhona Mirsky, Ph.D. of University College London, Gregory Reaman, MD of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and Silvia Cappello, Ph.D. of Helmholtz Zentrum München German Research and Jan Tuckermann of the Leibniz Institute for Age Research in Germany.

Seminar topics range from 'Deciphering the Signaling Pathways of NF2', to 'An Update on the Genetics of Schwannomatosis and NF1 Mouse Models & Preclinical Study Development'.

The Neurofibromatosis (NF) Conference has been organized by the Children’s Tumor Foundation (CTF) annually since 1985. With its roots in a small workshop-style gathering of a group called the ‘NF Consortium’ dedicated to cloning the genes underlying the Neurofibromatoses, the NF Conference has grown to a gathering of six hundred NF researchers and clinicians from around the world. This meeting is recognized as the premier annual gathering of international NF researchers and physicians. Major contributors to this growth are the significant advances made in NF research in recent years and, particularly, recent advances into clinical trials and drug therapy development. In addition, state-of-the-art genomic approaches have identified mutations in the NF genes as contributors to numerous types of sporadic cancers, signaling pathways including the Hippo and Ras cascades are implicated in NF, and it is now recognized that mutations in genes along the Ras pathway result in a set of disorders such as Noonan, LEOPARD cardio-facio-cutaneous and Legius syndromes, including NF1, called the “Rasopathies”. Each syndrome exhibits unique phenotypic features, however, since they all cause dysregulation of the Ras/MAPK pathway, there are numerous overlapping phenotypic features between the syndromes, including characteristic facial features, cardiac defects, cutaneous abnormalities, accelerated ageing, neurocognitive delay and a predisposition to malignancies.

Traditionally a forum for research information exchange and consensus building, in recent years the NF Conference is also the principal international forum for reporting on the neurofibromatosis preclinical therapeutic pipeline and the expanding arena of neurofibromatosis clinical trials.

Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
