Das Ereignis vom 11. September 2001, das unseren Blick auf die Machtverhältnisse in der Welt neu definiert und unser Gefühl von Sicherheit grundlegend verändert hat – und nicht zuletzt als Geburtsstunde des „war on terror“ gilt – wird in diesem Stück zum privaten Ereignis, unverstanden, uninterpretiert, ungewertet. Bevor die USA sich für eine Interpretation und eine sich daraus ableitende Handlungsstrategie entschieden haben, befanden sich die Amerikaner im Schockzustand der Ratlosigkeit. In genau diesem Moment stellt Craig Wright die moralisch problematische, aber existenzielle Frage nach Zufall oder Vorherbestimmung – und danach, wie frei der Wille in einer nationalen Gemeinschaft sein kann.
