The occurrence of diabetes is on the rise all over the world due to changing life styles. It is not as a “classical” disease which can be cured by a single or time-limited therapy. It is a creeping disease whose harmful effects increase over years and cause deleterious effects such as blindness, neuropathy, myocardial and cerebral infarction and loss of extremities in patients who are not in state-of-the-art care. Diabetes is not only a severe burden to the patient, but also to society in general since the costs of therapy have increased tremendously.
Northern Europe is one of the leading global centers of diagnosis, therapy and prevention of diabetes. It is the scope of the meeting, to present actual results in global disease development, learn from examples of modern approaches to combat the disease and to establish crossborder cooperation networks between Northern Europe, the Arabic countries and overseas.
The 2nd Baltic-Sea-Health-Region-Meeting gathers experts for diabetes treatment from the Baltic Sea Region and the Arab World to discuss transnational activities and to identify joint strategies of cooperation in the field of diabetes management.
Topics of the workshops are:
„Diabetes Mellitus – How can we Escape the Tsunami?”

ScanBalt Health Region Flagship was approved by the EU-Commission within its Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region. The mission of the Flagship is to set up cross-sectoral and transnational reference projects for collaboration and innovations in both health and in life sciences in order to promote Public Health on a high and sustainable level and to make the region a globally leading and prosperous Health Region.
