Multifunctional delivery vehicles and mircro/nano-engineered surfaces for miomedical applications

Das Institut für Biochemie lädt gemeinsam mit dem Ortsverband der Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker zu einem Kolloquium der GDCh. Dr. Mihaela Delcea, ZIK HIKE der Universität Greifswald, spricht zum Thema "Multifunctional delivery vehicles and mircro/nano-engineered surfaces for miomedical applications".

Abstract: In the last years, much research has been focused on development of novel microcapsules for biomedical applications as drug delivery systems. The next generation of carriers is represented by multicompartmentalized micro- and nanocapsules with increased complexity which allows simultaneous delivery of several vectors or biomolecules [1]. A novel approach to investigate release of encapsulated materials from polyelectrolyte multilayer capsules upon mechanical deformation is presented by combining fluorescence microscopy with AFM force spectroscopy [2]. This approach provides very useful information for designing microcapsules suitable for intra-cellular delivery of biomolecules, as well as understanding mechanics of cells. Opto-nanoporation, a method of creating nanometer size pores upon laser illumination, was applied for simultaneous release of large and small molecules from red blood cells (RBCs). By adsorbing gold nanoparticle aggregates on the membrane of RBCs, upon near-IR laser illumination, generated localized heating affects the permeability of the membrane [3]. This is relevant for generating nanometer channels in polymeric and living membranes and to simultaneous drug delivery with potential applications in cancer treatment. Currently, we are creating nano/micro-engineered surfaces to develop sensory surfaces for biomedical applications (e.g. diagnostic) and to study cell dynamics and cell mechanics with potential applications in tissue engineering and designing improved implant surfaces (e.g. pacemakers).

Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
