Der Botanische Garten Greifswald blickt in diesem Jahr auf eine 250-jährige Geschichte zurück. Bereits ein Jahr nach seiner Gründung sind im Inventarverzeichnis Oleander, Lorbeer, Granatapfel, Zwergpalme und Zitruspflanzen erwähnt. Diese als Kübelpflanzen gehaltenen Arten gehören damit zum Ursprungssortiment des Gartens. Sie genießen im Sommer den Aufenthalt im Freien und benötigen in der kalten Jahreszeit einen frostfreien Überwinterungsplatz. In unseren Regionen sind sie für Balkon und Terrasse beliebt.
Am Sonntag, 25.08.2013, wird Ingrid Handt im Rahmen einer Sonntagsführung im Botanischen Garten in der Münterstraße 2 ab 14:00 Uhr bekannte und seltenere Arten aus dieser Pflanzengruppe vorstellen, über ihre Nutzbarkeit berichten und Kulturansprüche erläutern.
