Personalität und Substanzialität, Allwissenheit und Allmacht, Allgegenwart und Einfachheit sind nur einige der Eigenschaften, die Gott im christlichen Theismus klassischerweise zugeschrieben werden. In den säkularen westlichen Kulturen wird die Rede von diesem Gott jedoch mehr und mehr zum Problem: Anfragen an das Verständnis der „Natur“ Gottes werden laut, die allein mit dem Rekurs auf Bibel und Offenbarung nicht mehr beantwortet werden können.
Die Tagung versucht vor diesem Hintergrund, die logischen und ontologischen Implikationen der Gott zugeschriebenen Wesenseigenschaften aufzudecken und auf ihre Kompatibilität und Nichtwider- sprüchlichkeit mit den anderen göttlichen Eigenschaften hin zu prüfen. Damit kann sie dazu beitragen, die begrifflichen und argumentativen Standards der Rede von Gott zu erneuern.

Personhood and substantiality, omniscience and omnipotence, omnipresence and simplicity are just some of the attributes which traditional theists typically ascribe to God. However, in the secular Western civilization, this conception of the divine becomes more and more problematic: requests concerning the understanding of God’s nature arise which cannot be answered in a satisfying way by just referring to the Bible or divine revelation.
Within this framework, the conference investigates the logical and ontological implications of the divine attributes, which are widely shared by traditional Christian theists. The compatibility or inconsistency of the various divine attributes taken together will also be a question at issue. As such, the conference can account for new academic standards regarding speech about God.
