Was bringt Gase zum Leuchten und welche Eigenschaften muss das Licht aufweisen, damit es auch zu Beleuchtungszwecken eingesetzt werden kann? Diese und andere Fragen sollen von zwei Physikern beantwortet werden, die über zehn Jahre in der Lampenforschung aktiv waren. Über Jahrzehnte waren Plasmalampen die effizientesten Lichtquellen, die wir kannten. Auch in Zeiten, in denen sich die LEDs auf der Überholspur befinden, haben Plasmalampen noch immer herausragende Eigenschaften, die sie für bestimmte Anwendungen alternativlos machen. Eine Reihe von Demonstrationsexperimenten soll die Vielfalt von Plasmalampen veranschaulichen.
