The 11th SWS European Chapter Meeting will be held in Potsdam (Germany) and is being organized by the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) in cooperation with the German Peat Society (DGMT), the Naturschutzfonds Brandenburg, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) Potsdam and the University of Aarhus (Denmark).
The meeting will be an opportunity to provide new perspectives on:
1) strategies on how wetland science can be effectively implemented in practice (knowledge transfer)
2) approaches to harmonize wetland functions and economic interests (conservation conflicts)
3) utilization of wetlands for mitigation of water pollution, greenhouse gas emissions and loss of biodiversity (management)
The meeting will include several oral sessions, poster presentations and field excursions to post-mining areas of the Lusatia region and managed wetland sites from EU Life projects. Keynote speakers will be Prof. Dr. Chris Freemann and Prof. Dr. Karsten Reise.
