In zwei parallelen Sessions geben Experten aus Wirtschaft und Wissenschaft Einblicke in die „Digitale Fabrik“ und das „Digitale Leben“. Vorgestellt werden, unter anderem, Mikrosysteme als Basis für das Internet der Dinge, Sensorik und intelligente Vernetzung in der Produktion, vernetzte Mikrokomponenten und Übertragungstechnologien im intelligenten Gebäude, digitale Trends in der Medizintechnik und Gesundheitsforschung sowie Anwendungen im Gesundheits- und Fitness-Monitoring, z.B. mithilfe so genannter „Wearables“.
Gastgeber der zweitägigen Konferenz sind das Leibniz-Institut für analytische Wissenschaften Dortmund – ISAS- e.V. und das Fraunhofer-Institut für Materialfluss und Logistik IML, an dem zum Abschluss der Konferenz auch eine Führung angeboten wird.
Die Dortmunder MST-Konferenz hat sich als Kommunikationsplattform der Mikro- und Nanotechnologien für Hersteller und Anwender aus Wissenschaft und Wirtschaft etabliert. Bereits seit 2004 findet die Konferenz einmal im Jahr in Dortmund statt. Gastgeber der Dortmunder MST-Konferenz sind die Wirtschaftsförderung Dortmund und der IVAM Fachverband für Mikrotechnik.
