World Health Summit 2016

The World Health Summit (WHS) is one of the world’s most prominent strategic forums for global health. The interdisciplinary, international event takes place within an atmosphere of academic freedom.

The World Health Summit – one of the world’s most prominent strategic forums for global health – is this year once again being held from October 9-11 at the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. At it, internationally renowned leaders and representatives from the sciences, politics, business, and civil society convene to discuss the latest challenges facing medical research and healthcare. Among them in 2016: four Ministers of Health, one Foreign Minister and two Nobel Prize laureates.

The speakers include:

• Matshidiso Rebecca Moeti (WHO Regional Director for Africa)
• Elizabeth Blackburn (Nobel Prize laureate (2009) / President, Salk Institute for Biological Studies, USA)
• Rolf M. Zinkernagel (Nobel Prize laureate (1996), Switzerland)
• Frans van Houten (CEO, Royal Philips, Netherlands)
• Emmanuelle Charpentier (Director, Max Planck Institute for Infection Biology, Germany)
• Yukiya Amano (Director General, International Atomic Energy Agency, Austria)
• Jutta Allmendinger (President, WZB Berlin, Germany)
• Norbert Hauser (Chair of the Board, The Global Fund, Switzerland)
• Helle Thorning-Schmidt (CEO, Save the Children, United Kingdom)
• Christian Bréchot (President, Institut Pasteur, France)
• Victor J. Dzau (President, Institute of Medicine, National Academy of Sciences, USA)

Central topics include Migration and Refugee Health; Big Data and Technological Innovation in Healthcare; Infectious Diseases and Lessons Learnt from Ebola and Zika; Women, Empowerment and Health.

Under the high patronage of German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President François Hollande and European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, the WHS attracts about 1,800 participants from more than 80 countries. It is the premiere international platform for exploring strategic developments and decisions in the area of healthcare.
