Although a work of art is an artist's means of expression and his or her construction or interpretations of a moment, a memory, an event, a person etc. it can tell a lot about a time period, its culture and people. Again the viewer has his or her own interpretation.
Throughout time a variety of visual arts that focus on the body, exercise, sporting scenes, individual athletes or sports have been created. So far only rarely have they been viewed as a source for sport historical work nor as a topic in themselves.
For this workshop we invite you to submit papers dealing with one of the following topics under a historical perspective:
- Art as a Source in Sport Historical Research
- Art and Competition (e.g. ´Olympic art competitions´)
- Sporting Bodies as Art
- Art and Sport in Society
- Photography and Sport
- Design and Sport
- Architecture and Sport
