Think tanks, Trump, and populism: The death of policy advice as we know it?

Presentation of the University of Pennsylvania's 2017 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report and panel discussion with Tyson E. Barker (Aspen Institute), Patrick Gilroy (Hertie School), James G. McGann (University of Pennsylvania), Nicole Renvert (German Council on Foreign Relations - DGAP), and Julian Zuber (Polis180). Hertie School President Helmut K. Anheier will deliver introductory remarks.

What does the future hold for think tanks? How should policy institutes on both sides of the Atlantic adapt to Trump's presidency and growing populism? And which roles can they play in our crisis-ridden world? As fears of populism sweep Europe and Trump-style politics threaten to undermine fundamental democratic values, sound policy advice is more sought-after than ever. James McGann will present the University of Pennsylvania's 2017 Global Go To Think Tank Index Report, followed by a debate about the assault of "post-truth" politics on evidence-based policy. Are think tanks part of the solution or part of the problem?
