Berlin is one of the major music metropolises worldwide with its strong music history, many labels, publishers, artists, and networks. Especially electronic music has been playing a dominant role, ever since clubs have opened their doors from the 1980s.
On Wednesday, 21st of June, the one-day interdisciplinary "Summer Solstice Symposium: The 'New' Age of Club and EDM Culture" will highlight the different scientific and practical approaches to this topic with three sessions and a panel.
Session 1: Scientific talks with Dr. Botond Vitos (PhD with specialization in cultural studies at Monash University, Melbourne); Dr. Jan-Michael Kühn (sociologist with specialization in electronic dance music), Christine Preiser (Max-Planck-Institut, specialized in studies of work life of bouncers) and Anita Jóri (research assistant at Vilém Flusser Archiv, Universität der Künste, PhD topic „The discourse community of electronic dance music“).
Session 2: Practice-orientied presentation by Aiko Okamoto (female:pressure), Lukas Drevenstedt (commercial director Clubcommission Berlin, Dr. Benedikt Brilmayer (Musikinstrumentenmuseum Berlin)
Session 3: Hands-on Workshops on music production with Camille Darroux (http://camilledarroux.com/), supported by NATIVE INSTRUMENTS
Panel amongst others with Katja Lucker (Managing Director, Musicboard Berlin), moderated by Prof. Dr. Martin Lücke
