Tiere, Pflanzen und Mikroorganismen sind wichtige Lieferanten für Nahrungsmittel, Wirkstoffe, verschiedenste Substanzen sowie Bau- und Werkstoffe. Die biologische Vielfalt ist damit unsere Lebensgrundlage und eine unerlässliche Ressource für jegliche biobasierte Wirtschaft. Doch wie ist es um sie bestellt, wie kann ihre nachhaltige Nutzung gewährleistet werden, und was bedeutet das für die Bioökonomie? Ist eine breite wirtschaftliche Nutzung der Biodiversität mit ihrem Schutz vereinbar, und reicht unser heutiges Wissen über die Biodiversität und die Ökosysteme, um abzuschätzen, wie weit wir in der Nutzung gehen dürfen?
