70. Mosbacher Kolloquium: High-resolution Imaging of Cells and Molecules

Since the invention of the first microscope, imaging techniques have played a key role in the field of science, in particular cell biology. Advances in microscopy have enabled the visualization of a broad range of biological processes and structures that form the basic building blocks of life. The 70th Mosbacher Kolloquium is dedicated to the application of microscopy techniques that allow one to depict the dynamics of life, from a single molecule to a whole organism.

In recent years, super-resolution light microscopy and electron cryo microscopy have pushed the limits of our ability to view the microscopic world, broadened the application spectrum of these techniques and inspired new research directions. Today, it is not only possible to elucidate the structure of individual proteins using electron cryo microscopy, but also to determine their exact distribution in the cell using super-resolution light microscopy.

Other methods such as light sheet microscopy enable one to study the development of entire organisms with sub-cellular resolution. The correlative methods developed in recent years have expanded the range of application by combining light microscopy with electron microscopy. After many years of technical development, both electron cryo microscopy and super-resolution microscopy became state of the art techniques and are now widely available. In particular, the use of these techniques is no longer limited to specialized research groups but is also available to many researchers across various scientific fields.

The 70th Mosbacher Kolloquium of the Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (GBM e.V.) aims to create a platform to discuss new potential synergies and areas of application of the two previously separate fields of light and electron microscopy. The scientific organizers for this year are Professor Stefan Jakobs (MPI for Biophysical Chemistry, Göttingen) and Professor Stefan Raunser (MPI of Molecular Physiology, Dortmund). They have been able to successfully attract world-class experts who are not only dedicated to the further development of these methods, but also actively use and promote them in their own research in order to answer specific biological questions. In addition, promising young researchers will have the opportunity to present their work to an international audience.

We are thrilled to announce the two highlights of this event: the Feodor Lynen honorary lecture by Professor Werner Kühlbrandt and the award ceremony of the Eduard Buchner Prize to Professor Irmgard Sinnig.

The 70th Mosbacher Kolloquium will take place from April 4th to 6th in 2019 in Mosbach/Baden. For further information, please visit the following website where you can obtain details of this conference starting from October 2018: www.mosbacher-kolloquium.org.

Help

Search / advanced search of the idw archives
Combination of search terms

You can combine search terms with and, or and/or not, e.g. Philo not logy.

Brackets

You can use brackets to separate combinations from each other, e.g. (Philo not logy) or (Psycho and logy).

Phrases

Coherent groups of words will be located as complete phrases if you put them into quotation marks, e.g. “Federal Republic of Germany”.

Selection criteria

You can also use the advanced search without entering search terms. It will then follow the criteria you have selected (e.g. country or subject area).

If you have not selected any criteria in a given category, the entire category will be searched (e.g. all subject areas or all countries).
